WordPress is an excellent platform for creating any type of website. It’s easy to use, SEO friendly, and there’s a plethora of themes and plugins available to enhance it.

However, when you self-host WordPress on your own domain, it comes with security risks, just like any other website.

Regina says “As the website owner, it’s your responsibility to be proactive in keeping your site and your visitors safe from malware, hackers, and other security threats”, and I agree.  You must know what it takes to keep your website safe.

I was fortunate enough to meet Regina in person at an internet marketing conference back in August.  We have a mutual friend who made the introduction and as a result of that meeting, Regina has not only been kind enough to provide the following article on what YOU can do to prevent having your WordPress website compromised by malicious hackers; but…  better still, she has agreed to be my guest on Wednesday, January 12th, at 11:00 am EST, on our “e-Edge Marketing Blog Talk Radio Show“!   I plan to grill Regina on what you, as a business owner need to know to keep your businesses website as safe as possible.

You are cordially  invited to join us at that time to listen in and learn what you need to know to protect your WordPress site.  Please join us here.

Keep Your WordPress Blog Safe From Malicious Hackers

WordPress is an excellent platform for creating any type of website. It’s easy to use, SEO friendly, and there’s a plethora of themes and plugins available to enhance it.

However, when you self-host WordPress on your own domain, it comes with security risks, just like any other website.

As the website owner, it’s your responsibility to be proactive in keeping your site and your visitors safe from malware, hackers, and other security threats.

5 Quick Tips for WordPress Security

  1. Clean Computer – Be sure your computer is behind a firewall, your anti-virus program is up-to-date, and run daily virus/malware scans.
  2. Backups – Make frequent backups of your server files and your database. If you update your site daily, then make a backup daily.
  3. Upgrade – When there’s an upgrade available for your WordPress installation and/or plugins, update as soon as possible. Many times these are security updates.
  4. CHMOD – Be sure your server directory permissions are set to 755 and your file permissions are set to 644.
  5. Strong Passwords – Never use the same password, change them often, and use a minimum of 14 characters with a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. (Check with your hosting provider for what’s allowed on the server.)

Important: Before making any changes or updates to your WordPress site, be sure to check for conflicts and compatibility issues and have a working backup.

Although there are many more security elements to put in place on your website, the 5 quick tips above will help to reduce the risk of your WordPress blog from being compromised.

Securely yours,
