Business Blogs. Connecting and Marketing Your Online Blog.

business blogsMost of the business owners I talk to commonly underestimate the power of having a blog for their business or they feel that they just don’t need one because… they already have a website.  Business blogs are much more personal and offer benefits that most business owners haven’t yet discovered or even considered as part of their marketing strategy.  This is especially true for strategic small business marketing or for home business owners where is is especially important for you to “connect” with your customers.

Business websites are for conducting business. You use the pages to tell potential customers about what you do. They can find out all they want to know about about your business on your website.  Things like your business hours, what services you offer, where you are located, and how to contact you are commonly things business owners post to their websites.  What readers don’t usually find on a business website are all the little details of your business.  Business blogs make connecting with your customers on that level much, much easier.  You can be certain that the results of getting personally involved with your readers will mean the difference in your readers mind of your business being just being another website, or the reader actually relating to you.  The people who are already searching the internet looking for your specific products and services will buy from people they that they know, like, and trust.  Allowing them to know you, relate to you, and like you, will make you stand out from the thousands, or even perhaps, millions of other websites out there!

More importantly, when your readers follow your blog and connect with you there, you can interact with with them and build trust with them. Trust, is an essential part of any business relationship and online, it is even more important. Regrettably, we all know that words can sometimes be deceiving. And, people can sometimes promise a lot but not deliver. It can be hard to trust a voice coming through only words on a screen without a face or any other personal information to go with it.  With a blog, readers will get to know you, they’ll be able to see what other customers have to say, and know things like what is behind your passion for the sort of business that you have.  They won’t find that on a website.

Blogs for Business

Blogs came into creation as online journals. They still are in a way. A blog is less business-like and more personal. Personal is what your readers will want from you. On a blog, they can meet you on a higher, more meaningful level that will help them to appreciate you even more on a business level.

This doesn’t mean that you have to share every detail of your personal life for them to get to know you. It is about building relationships that will last. So, in the interest of that, you can be the first to extend the olive branch.

Blogs are great because readers and customers can interact with you each time you post. Think of each new blog post as an entirely new webpage.  It actually is.  Did you know that every blog post has it’s own URL or website address?  Each of those pages in turn, can attract new customers depending on the words on those pages.  Every new post gives those searching online for your products and services another chance to find you as well as another opportunity for interaction on both their part and yours.

Your posts don’t have to be very formal. Start by introducing yourself and talking about who you are and how your company became who  you are today.  It is an opener that could be just enough to draw your readers in.

Best Business Blog Practices

When your readers (customers and potential customers),  leave feedback they are responding to your posts. Now what?

Well, communication is a two-way street. Answer their comments as often as you can.  Preferably, answer more often than not. Every comment is an opportunity not only for you to interact with the reader making the comment, but also for other readers to take note of.  Carry on a conversation with the people who are willing to give you a chance to connect with them.

Blogging for business is a useful tool for building relationships with readers and customers. It gives them a chance to see you as a real person, just like them, and not just another website like all the rest.
